Devices which
are sold in small unit num-bers don't justify the money required
for the development of a ven-dor-specific Profibus interface. The
'is Pro Gate' interface connects devices which already include an
RS232 interface to Profibus in an inexpensive and easy way.
The interface
can be rail- or wall-mounted, or can be integrated into the device
with an add-on board. The 'is Pro Gate' supports Profibus DP and
DP/V1, and with an optional Profibus profile chip Profibus PA. An
key feature is the inclusion of the acyclic services of DP/V1 (AC2).
The physical
layer remains unchanged so that the IEC1158-2 physical specifi-cation
is not supported. This is of special interest for all devices which
need access to the additional functionality provided by Profibus
PA but without having any need for intrinsically safe transmission.
