Alcan chooses Rosemount
for annealing control
Alcan Rolled
Products has chosen oxygen analysers from Rosemount Analytical to
improve annealing process control in the processing of aluminium
at its Newport plant.
Alcan produces
coils of aluminium, typically 0.5-2.0mm thick, destined for use
in the automotive industry. Annealing of these coils has to be carried
out in an inert atmosphere, and the oxygen concentration inside
the furnaces has to be maintained below 0.1% to prevent oxidation.
Alcan selected the Rosemount Oxymitter 4000, impressed by its fast
response and excellent accuracy and repeatability. The unit maintains
the correct atmosphere inside the furnace by control of nitrogen
injection.
The unit is
designed as a conventional 4-20mA transmitter, but is SMART, and
capable of using HART communications to interface with AMS (Asset
Management Solutions) software.
