Coupler links Profibus networks using serial protocols

The FD-10 Profibus couplers from Westermo Data Communications are universal Profibus DP slave units that are able to transfer Profibus DP process data between networks using serial links without the use of special drivers or PLC cards. The FD-10 has RS232 and RS485 outputs and the same serial protocol is used in both cases.

Three variants exist: the FD-10P provides a point-to-point link via direct cabling, or it can be used with a leased line, dialup modem or radio system to connect two widely separated Profibus DP networks. The FD-10A, meanwhile, can be used to control data transfer between two or more other independent Profibus networks on a single addressable cable, multidrop modem system or radio network.

Finally, for more advanced networking requirements, the FD-10N can be used in conjunction with multi-dropping modems or a radio network. Network communication is controlled by Profibus masters within the network.
