Ethercat media are well suited for control environments as they can be operated with or without switches. Ethercat boasts 80% bandwidth utilisation resulting in high performance such as updating 100 axes of motion in 100µs. Ethercat is open as it uses standard Ethernet network interface cards, will be a published specification and the technology is based on input from the Ethercat Technology Group.
